NEW YORK CITY EXHIBITION 

ARGYLE DIAMOND MINE

This is a collection of 21 pieces in a

series of 9 146cm x 220cm priced on Museum Grade Linen.

note: some have been sold pre-exhibition.

 

 I was invited by Argyle Diamonds to photograph the surrounding landscape of the Argyle Diamond Mine. Located in the East Kimberley region in the remote north of Western Australia. Argyle is the largest diamond producer in the world. The Traditional Owners of the Argyle Diamond Mine are the Gija and Mirriwung people. The location of the Argyle mine is called Barramundi Gap and is a sacred women’s site. 

Dreamtime or 'Ngarranggarni' stories provide a strong belief system through which indigenous people understand their country and their relationship to it. The following Mirriwung and Gija stories - which have been passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years - describe the Dreamtime origins of the Barramundi Gap.

These are the images I captured on sunrises and sunsets in the surrounding hills on the reservation. This was by kind invitation of the Gija and Mirriwung people.  As their guest, I stayed with them and listened to  Barramundi Dreaming Stories at night around the campfire before retiring to swags in tents to dream under the myriad of stars on balmy humbling silent evenings.
